Job Summary

The Northbank Center Management Office is looking to hire a student Receptionist to answer phones and assist with other office and departmental duties. Northbank Center is located on the north end of campus and is a multi-use building. We have classroom space, University department offices, external tenants who rent space from the University, meeting spaces, and large rental spaces for outside events such as weddings and community events. You may have seen Northbank Center on the news hosting various events! 

 

Responsibilities*

  • Provide assistance to Northbank Center (NBC) Management staff while covering the Reception Desk
  • Providing information and assisting building tenants and guests
  • Provide clerical support to Management Staff and Executive Suite tenants as requested. This includes copying, faxing, filing, mail delivery, and other tasks as assigned
  • Answer telephones for NBC Management Office and Security and handle multiple lines effectively
  • Maintaining Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS) reporting for the department
  • Monthly updates to elevator displays and other departmental reports
  • Assisting with accounts receivable/ payable
  • Maintaining kitchen and office supplies and placing orders as needed
  • Assisting with webpage and social media marketing

Required Qualifications*

  • Must be registered for fall semester classes at University of Michigan - Flint
  • Must receive Work Study for fall semester
  • Must be available to work some hours during the week Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm outside of class. We are ideally looking for a student who plans to stay in the Flint area during the summer as well
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively using proper grammar and spelling
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, previous customer service experience a plus
  • Courteous and brings a positive, helpful attitude to the workplace
  • Ability to multitask and recount information accurately
  • Professional, organized, and punctual
  • Ability to listen patiently, asking appropriate questions when necessary
  • Must practice discretion

Desired Qualifications*

  • Have an interest in building management and administration
  • Creative person who enjoys making posters, flyers, taking pictures and assisting with building announcements and advertising
  • Willingness to take an active role in emergency situations
  • Previous office experience a plus
  • Previous receptionist/phone answering experience a plus
