To assist the Clinical Nursing Director in planning and management of the Von Voigtlander Women's Birth Center patient care services. To provide leadership in the practice of nursing, emphasizing quality patient care, education and research.
To assist in coordinating patient care services consistent with Michigan Medicine mission, values and goals.
Reports directly to the Birth Center Clinical Nursing Director.
Collaborative/consultative relationship with other health professionals and administrative personnel. Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over nursing and support staff as delegated by the Clinical Nursing Director.
Maintain clinical competency in the care of the patient populations cared for within the unit. Maintain significant presence across all treatment areas within the unit, rounding on patients and families, and interfacing with staff, to facilitate patient care excellence.
Management of Clinical Area:
Participate in the development and implementation of unit goals and objectives. Participate in development of unit policy/procedure and patient care standards. Participate in planning and problem solving of daily unit operations, priorities of patient services, and urgent and emergent care. Identify and plan for staffing consistent with the needs of the patient population and budgetary requirements. Interpret and implement the Hospital and University policies and procedures and the standards of regulatory agencies. Participate in the monitoring of unit payroll and commodity expenditures. Provide input into the payroll and commodity budget planning process. Anticipate and respond to patient/family issues and concerns.
Quality Improvement and Research:
Participate in planning, coordinating and evaluating unit quality improvement activities. Promote the integration of research findings into clinical practice by unit nursing staff. Promote staff involvement in clinical research. Use lean management principles to optimize department operations.

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan
Applicant must meet one of the following:
Bachelors Degree in Nursing (or) Associate Degree or diploma in Nursing AND a Masters Degree in Nursing
Minimum five years current/recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an LDR/LDRP setting, including experience in operative delivery and post-anesthesia care.
Demonstrated leadership skills including creative and effective problem-solving, ability to effectively collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, and ability to direct nursing practice and apply critical thinking skills/judgment to a variety of situations.
Demonstrated effectiveness in verbal and written communication, including conflict management/resolution.
Demonstrated ability to work independently in meeting project/assignment deadlines and expectations within competing priorities.
Evidence of continuing education/development in perinatal nursing and/or leadership skills.

Previous supervisory/management experience, including schedule management;
Recent experience in high-risk perinatal nursing;
Certification in Perinatal Nursing or Nursing Management/Administration;
Completion of the AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course;
Knowledge of the University of Michigan Health System policies and practice;
Hours/Week: 40 hours/ 4 days per week
Shift: 2 pm to 12 midnight, or 12 midnight to 10 am, with flexibility to cover needs of the unit and weekend responsibility including on call.
