Job Summary

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) invites applications for an events and communications coordinator for LSA’s new Opportunity Hub.  The LSA Opportunity Hub is a transformational initiative to encourage all students to connect their liberal arts education with their goals and aspirations. Hub staff collaborates with campus partners to help students access learning opportunities outside the classroom, both on and off campus. The Hub does this through internship funding, employer partnerships, and alumni mentors so students can explore challenging, diverse opportunities and put their liberal arts education to work. The Opportunity Hub is led by the assistant dean for student development and career initiatives and is housed under the area of LSA Undergraduate Education.

We are seeking candidates who have an innovative and flexible approach to work. The ideal candidate will feel comfortable in a constantly evolving workplace, approach change with graciousness, and have a deep commitment to the liberal arts and sciences, and to supporting students. The Opportunity Hub is dedicated to helping LSA students find their path and fulfill their goals; this person will need to bring enthusiasm to this mission.

Responsibilities*

The events and communications coordinator oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of Hub events.  This person is also responsible for providing communications and administrative support for the LSA Opportunity Hub. This position reports to the lead administrative coordinator.

50% - Manage the planning, development, execution, wrap-up, and follow-up stages of all Hub-related events. Manage and track expenses to remain within set budgets and ensure all expenses are in compliance with University policy.

25% -  In collaboration with the communication specialist, help manage the publicity for events. This includes thinking strategically about how to market programs, target the right audiences, and measure success. It also includes staying on top of more basic tasks, like updating event information on U-M and Ann Arbor websites, working with media outlets to ensure events are well-publicized, and build relationships across campus that will help us spread the word about our events.

20% - Coordinate travel arrangements for Hub staff and guests. Provide back-up administrative support and work on special projects as needed.

5% - Professional Development

 

Required Qualifications*

Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience in a higher education setting. Must have a positive service-oriented attitude and excellent interpersonal skills. Proficient using Microsoft Office and Google software. Demonstrated written and communication skills. Savvy with social media.

Desired Qualifications*

Bachelor’s degree in a liberal arts field.  Demonstrated experience with university systems, policies, and procedures.  Experience with Adobe products including InDesign, Dreamweaver & Photoshop. Appreciation of and ability to articulate the value of the liberal arts and sciences.

Additional Information

Due to the rapid growth of the Hub, this individual will need to be adaptable to change as it is expected this role will evolve to best serve the needs of the organization. This role will require the ability to flex  hours to work early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends to ensure event coverage.
