Responsibilities*

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH EPIDEMIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

TEMPORARY PART TIME POSITION: RESEARCH ASSISTANT 2 (for 2) 028200

DURATION: Approximately October 2017 through April, 2018 (dependent on influenza season)

HOURS: 24-32hrs/week                                                          PAY RATE: $15 per hour

The primary purpose of this position is to assist with a CDC-funded influenza research study, working under the direction and supervision of School of Public Health faculty and senior research staff. The goals of this project are to assess the effectiveness of the influenza vaccine in preventing hospitalizations in adults associated with influenza and to determine the number of hospitalizations associated with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

The Research Assistant is responsible for working with UM hospital personnel to identify and recruit potential eligible study subjects, obtain informed consent, administer study interview and complete data collection forms, collect throat and nasal swab specimens, obtain clinical specimens from hospital laboratories, properly store and package specimens for transport to the research laboratory, and maintain an inventory of research study supplies.

Desired Qualifications*

The successful candidate will have experience assisting with patient health care visits or research study experience, including informed consent process, interviewing research study subjects, accurately completing data collection forms. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are necessary in order work effectively with staff at participating hospitals. Basic computing skills such as email and Microsoft Office are necessary.
