Job Summary

Responsible for scheduling specialty appointments, obtaining insurance authorizations.  Provide and promote exceptional customer service for referring physicians, patients and their families served at the Kellogg Eye Center

Responsibilities*

  • Answer phones and schedule appointments accurately and efficiently utilizing Cadence
  • Management of pre-arrival functions to assure all necessary information has been obtained for clinic visits
  • Provide check in and check out services to patients
  • Schedule new and return visits appropriately to specialty clinics
  • Based on symptoms, schedule urgent visits appropriately per the clinic guidelines
  • Respond to patient inquiries related to special requirements of insurance carrier as needed to address coverage and benefit questions
  • Collect cash,credit cards and checks for copays or patient pay
  • Document imaging
  • Provide information to patients regarding billing procedures
  • Faxing glasses/contact lens prescriptions to vision centers as needed
  • Other duties as directed by supervisor

Required Qualifications*

Required qualifications for Associate level:

  • High school graduate or equivalent education and a minimum of 2 years of experience required
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • A professional and positive image when interacting with patients, faculty and staff, and have excellent grammar and communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills

Required qualifications for Assistant level:

  • High school graduate or equivalent education and a 0-2 years of experience required
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • A professional and positive image when interacting with patients, faculty and staff, and have excellent grammar and communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills

Desired Qualifications*

  • Some college preferred
  • Knowledge of  basic computer applications and computerized scheduling systems
  • Knowledge of medical terminology helpful
  • Experience with MIChart and Cadence applications
