Job Summary

Two productive physician-scientists in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of General Medicine seek 2 full-time Database Analysts / Programmers Senior to join an exciting and growing research team including physicians, biostatisticians, and health services researchers.

We are seeking experienced master-level analysts and statistical programmers with experience managing and analyzing data for health services research using STATA or SAS. Experience with large administrative file analysis and longitudinal data analysis are preferred. These analysts must be able to work independently and collaboratively. These analysts must understand both database and research complexities, and apply independent problem-solving skills and scientific knowledge. We support and encourage opportunities to participate in ongoing training, collaborative research meetings, advanced methods workshops, and papers.

Responsibilities*

These positions involve a wide range of tasks including data management, statistical programming, and analysis supporting health services research. Specifically, the positions involve providing independent and collaborative support including the following responsibilities:

  • Providing guidance for study design issues.
  • Performing power calculations and estimating sample size.
  • Writing, testing, and implementing programs using Stata or SAS to clean, manage, merge, and analyze large, complex datasets.
  • Implementing methods to ensure data quality.
  • Developing and drafting specific plans for data management and analysis.
  • Independently conducting appropriate data management and analysis.
  • Conducting computer programming as needed for completion of other tasks.
  • Preparing and maintaining technical documentation of data management and analysis files.
  • Summarizing, interpreting, and presenting results in written, tabular and visual formats.
  • Assisting in the writing and reviewing of statistical methods in manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Participating as a team member in discussions on data collection, management, and analysis.

Required Qualifications*

Senior:

  • Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, computer science, information, or related field.
  • ≥5 years of advanced experience using Stata or SAS for data management and analysis.
  • Advanced ability to draft and do data management and analysis plans based on study design and solve problems.
  • Advanced knowledge of concepts and methods in epidemiology and biostatistics.
  • Experience working with complex data structures and linkages between data sources.
  • Advanced programming knowledge using high-level programming language
  • Advanced ability to write clear and concise technical documentation, summaries of various methodologies, and descriptions of statistical results.
  • Excellent communication, both oral and written in the English language.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and efficiently work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple researchers.
  • Ability to be consistently and extremely detail-oriented.
  • ≥5 years of experience in data management, statistical analysis, and computer programming.
  • Advanced direct experience in managing and supporting major research projects using large administrative datasets, such as Medicare claims, and longitudinal data analysis.

Intermediate:

  • Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, computer science, information, or related field.
  • ≥2 years of experience using Stata or SAS for data management and analysis.
  • Ability to draft and do data management and analysis plans based on study design and solve problems.
  • Working knowledge of concepts and methods in epidemiology and biostatistics.
  • Experience working with complex data structures and linkages between data sources.
  • Strong programming knowledge using high-level programming language
  • Proven ability to write clear and concise technical documentation, summaries of various methodologies, and descriptions of statistical results.
  • Excellent communication, both oral and written in the English language. Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and efficiently work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple researchers.
  • Ability to be consistently and extremely detail-oriented.

Desired Qualifications*

  • ≥3 years of experience in data management, statistical analysis, and computer programming.
  • Direct experience in managing and supporting major research projects using large administrative datasets, such as Medicare claims, and longitudinal data analysis.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Additional Information

Candidates will be asked to provide example code from a longitudinal analysis that involves merging and cleaning data, univariate analyses for a table on participant characteristics, modeling with multiple regression and/or survival, and creating figures such as a Kaplan Meier curve or spline.
