The position is a Research Assistant for Shruti Jolly MD in Radiation Oncology, within an established research group which conducts both clinical and translational physics research to improve treatment for lung cancer by increasing tumor control and decreasing side effects. This group has an outstanding track record for mentoring trainees and helping them move on to the next level of training or education.
The position will involve creating and maintaining databases of clinical, tumor, and treatment factors for patients who have received radiotherapy for lung tumors. Data will be collected from the electronic hospital record as well as the radiation oncology planning system and entered into a database. Patient-reported quality of life information will be added in the near future. Thus, the employee will need to quickly learn medical vocabulary to extract this information. Data analysis and modeling will be performed by the statistician and physicists on the research team, but the employee will have the opportunity to participate in this and learn the thought process and methodology. The employee will also be responsible for assisting in organizing the efforts of the entire team.
This position requires a bachelor's degree and experience with Microsoft Excel and RedCap. Candidates must have excellent organizational, time management, multi-tasking, and computational skills. Strong written and oral communication skills are also necessary. Desired qualifications include experience writing scientific papers and/ or grants. Our group has a strong interest in helping trainees in pursuit of further education in the sciences, such as medical school or graduate school. We are looking for motivated team members with the initiative to eventually lead a project or two.
