We are looking for a personable, self-motivated and detail-oriented team player to help with follow-up activities for a federally-funded research study focused on substance use and HIV risk behaviors. This study will be conducted out of the Hurley Medical Center Emergency Department in Flint, Michigan. Key job responsibilities include contacting and collecting data from study participants, maintaining study records, and helping to develop internal study documentation.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Assist with survey development and creation of study manuals and other internal documentation. Data enter cases into Access databases and clean databases as directed by supervisor. Complete participant tracking paperwork accurately and in the required time frame. Distribute and document transactions of subject incentives according to study protocol. Conduct and document risk assessments as needed. Locate and contact enrolled subjects for survey reminders, and to schedule follow-up appointments. Complete follow-up interviews at hospital or community locations, which involves: assisting subjects with self-administered computerized web surveys on a tablet computer, conducting structured interviews requiring discussion of personal and sensitive topics (e.g., substance use, HIV risk behaviors), and collecting biological samples for research purposes.
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, or related health field required. This position requires flexibility and availability to work weekdays as well as some weekend/evening shifts. Reliable transportation will be necessary in order to complete participant interviews at various community locations.
We are looking for someone who has excellent organizational skills; is detail-oriented, personable, able to work independently but also be a team player; and can communicate effectively. Must be comfortable with substance using population and discussing topics of substance use and HIV risk behaviors with study participants. Previous research experience, clinic/hospital work or volunteer experience, and knowledge of the research process strongly preferred.
Mid-day shifts during weekdays and weekends (typically between the hours of 10am – 7pm), as well as some evening shifts on an as needed basis.

This position is 100% grant funded. Additional opportunities of extending this position or increasing to full-time employment may be available.
