Job Summary

The Pediatric Specialties Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) is the clinical home for children and families seeking care across multiple pediatric subspecialties at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. The primary mission of the ACU is to partner with our doctors, nurses and other providers to deliver excellent care and customer service. We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and self-driven Allied Health Supervisor to support the Pediatric Pulmonary Lab . This individual will share our priorities which include: high quality medical care, excellent customer service, safety of staff and patients, efficiency, employee satisfaction, stewardship of resources and the ideal experience for our patients, families and employees.


I. Summary of Position

A. Provide supervisory support and coordination for the safe and ethical provision of services associated with Pediatric Pulmonary Lab

II.Specific Responsibilities

A. Supervise the initiation and maintenance of basic and complex pulmonary function testing for neonatal, infant and pediatric patients.

B. Responsible for assignments, scheduling, counseling, and evaluation of assigned staff

C. Participation in the interview process of prospective employees.

D. Orientation of new employees.

E. Orientation of staff to new equipment and procedures.

F. Responsible for ensuring laboratory services are in compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards

G. Participation in continuing education of staff.

H. Participation in coordination of departmental staff meetings.

I. Oversee and ensure the care, maintenance and disinfection or sterilization of all equipment and supplies. Maintain the appropriate records regarding these procedures.

K. Participation in the evaluation of new equipment.

L. Functional knowledge of purchasing process.

M Encouraged to develop and initiate new ideas and techniques relevant to Pediatric Pulmonary Function Testing

N. If needed, and so designated, must be able to perform any and all job responsibilities of the job descriptions over which he/she exercises supervision.

Required Qualifications*

III.Educational/Professional Responsibilities and Requirements

A. Registered Respiratory Therapist by the NBRC

B. Licensed by Michigan Department of Community Health’s Board of Respiratory Care

C. Expert knowledge of basic and advanced cardiopulmonary procedures related to respiratory care, pulmonary function testing and readily available to act as a consultant.

D. Must have a working knowledge of appropriate UMHC and UM policies and Standard Practice Guidelines.

B. Must exhibit genuine leadership qualities.

C. Must be able to function well under stress.

D. Must be able to conduct interactions with all staff, families, patients and visitors in a professional manner

V. Physical Requirements

A. Considerable physical and mental effort in job duties.

B. Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.

C. Job may be prone to fatigue and infrequent opportunities for relaxation.

VII.Health Dangers

A. Continuous possibility of exposure to infectious diseases, high-pressure medical gases and potential electrical hazards.

B. Possibility of illness as a result of occupation.

Desired Qualifications*

A. Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist by the NBRC

B. Previous Pediatric ICU experience

C. Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in Pediatric Pulmonary Function

D. Bachelor degree or higher
