This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) temporary job opening.
Both qualified NP and PA applicants will be considered.

A total of one (1), Advanced Practice Professionals (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this TEMP job opening.
-Provide inpatient care to pediatric and young adult patients admitted on 7 East inpatient unit on Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant (PBMT) and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (PHO) service.
-Cover overnight calls for the PBMT/ PHO service during 10PM to 8AM hours, 7 days / week.
-Coverage of Saturday and Sunday PBMT inpatient rounds on rotational basis.
-Saturday outpatient infusion patients from 8AM-4Pm on rotational basis.
-Direct patient care and management would include: initiation of evaluation, admission, coordinating patient care with other inpatient pediatric hematology-oncology, housestaff and hospitalist team.
-Stabilizing and transferring patient to Pediatric ICU under the instruction of PBMT/ PHO team, if indicated.
-Patient and family counseling and support as necessary.
-Collaboration with and referrals to other health care providers as necessary, and provision of education to nursing staff.
-Perform and document via dictation medical histories, physical exams, and telephone conversations.
-Support clinical research mission of the PBMT/ PHO programs, including care of patients on clinical trials.
-Review laboratory and radiographic tests results and interface with medical staff and patients regarding results and plan of care.
-Support the clinical practice of pediatric bone marrow transplant and hematologists/oncology team physicians, but also see patients independently.
-Perform procedures such a lumbar punctures if needed.
-Contribute to the development, modification and interpretation of pediatric hematology/oncology guidelines, policies, and procedures, including quality improvement activities.
-Collaborate and serve as a resource for the health care team members regarding the mission of the institution.
-Collaboration of patient care coordination with clinic nursing support. Attend continuing education/staff development programs to maintain knowledge of current literature.
**Roles and responsibilities may be periodically adjusted as determined by the needs of the Cancer Center Clinical Program.

-Current license to practice as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan is preferred.
-Current license to practice as a pediatric primary care or family nurse practitioner in the state of Michigan would be considered as well.
-Satisfactory completion of an approved pediatric or family clinical Nurse Practitioner (NP) program.
-Certification as a nurse practitioner by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB)
-Advanced Practice certification as a certified NP by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse practitioners (AANP).
-Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
-Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
-Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as measured by references and interviews.
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
-Ability to work with minimal supervision.

-One(1) or more years of current NP/PA clinical experience in pediatric bone marrow transplant, hematology/oncology, immunodeficiencies or any inpatient pediatric acute care unit is strongly preferred.
-Progressive expertise in the management of patients at the Advanced Practice level.
-Commitment to clinical and translational research.
-The ability to function independently.
-Experience and efficiency in the use of a variety of computer applications.
-Demonstrated leadership in work setting and other professional activities.
-Experience in the University of Michigan Health System.
