Job Summary

The University of Michigan is engaged in a major, presidential initiative to support and transform foundational courses - those large courses that introduce students to a major or discipline. As part of this process, the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) is developing a Foundational Course Initiative (FCI) that will partner teams of instructors with CRLT consultants to revise these courses to promote the success of all students. We seek a colleague who will play a central role in helping achieve the vision of improving student experience in foundational courses. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the work of a well-supported teaching center whose mission focuses on excellence in teaching and learning.  Candidates from groups historically underrepresented in faculty development are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities*

  • Responsible for initiating and arranging details of numerous meetings for FCI consultants.  Also responsible for planning and executing logistics for events involving a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.  Duties include managing phone and e-mail communications with meeting participants; maintaining up-to-date participation status; identifying and reserving venues; coordinating calendars and travel schedules; arranging travel; arranging catering services; preparing audio-visual and room set ups; preparing meeting materials; performing event budget reviews and negotiating contracts; and providing onsite event management.  

  • Provide general administrative services to support the daily operations of the FCI including reception duties, organizing and ordering supplies, providing facilities coordination, maintaining calendars and travel schedules, scheduling conference and meeting rooms, preparing meeting minutes, telephone and email correspondence, assisting with travel and expense reconciliations, etc.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • 3+ years experience demonstrating strong administrative and project management skills.

  • Strong attention to detail, deep dedication to customer service, and a team approach to work.

  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, work simultaneously on numerous tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work professionally with the public and serve as a representative of the Institute with a high degree of discretion and confidentiality.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Familiarity with Google Drive and a willingness to learn new applications.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Familiarity with U-M event spaces and experience working with preferred caterers.

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
