Job Summary

Joint Faculty Positions, Department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at University of Michigan

The University of Michigan Medical School Departments of Computational Medicine & Bioinformatics and Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences are partnering to seek outstanding applicants for a tenure-track faculty position.  Successful candidates will establish independent, interdisciplinary research programs at the interface of vision science and computational medicine to address basic and translational research in the biology of vision, with the ultimate goal of improving lives by preserving and enhancing vision. This position focuses on clinical informatics of eye diseases, with research involving disease ontology, deep phenotyping using EHRs and other sources, tissue banking, epidemiology and comorbidity with chronic conditions (such as diabetes) affecting vision health. 

The candidate is expected to have expertise in systems/network biology, multi-omic integrative analysis of disease mechanisms, or development of innovative bioinformatics methods. The position is in the instructional (tenure) track and is full-time.

 

 

 

Required Qualifications*

Successful candidates will have a PhD and/or MD degree, or equivalent, in areas as described above.  Documentation of scholarly ability and achievement (record of publications in peer-reviewed journals; record of acquisition of external funding for research programs, detailed research plan, collaborative research experience) is expected.  Preferred candidate will have a demonstrated interest in graduate and post-doctoral education and possess the critical elements of teaching (knowledge of subject matter, skill in presentation, enthusiastic approach, etc.). Evidence of competence in teaching is expected.
