Job Summary


  • Dispense fuel for automobiles and trucks.
  • Clean vehicle interiors including all glass, dashboards, seats, floors, and other surfaces using powered equipment and manually as needed, including cleanup of bodily fluids that may require OSEH hazardous spills training and protocols.
  • Inspect and perform maintenance on fuel facilities, including sweep/mop floors, empty trash, clean pumps, replace nozzles, hoses, and filters, and inspect fuel tanks for content level and leaks, and maintain appropriate records.
  • Inspect all motor vehicle fluid levels, such as engine oil, transmission fluid, hydraulic oil, washer solvent, power steering fluid, etc., and refill as necessary.
  • Change oil, oil filters, and air filters.
  • Inspect batteries for charge and adequate water levels.
  • Replace loose or missing battery cables.
  • Replace windshield wiper blades and burnt out light bulbs.
  • Jump start vehicles.
  • Inspect tires for wear and air pressure.
  • Maintain supply of coolant, windshield solvent, and oils in fluids areas of the service stations.
  • Clean up fuel spills in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Examine returning vehicles for damage or missing parts; compare against damage inventory records, record mileage, and complete inspection reports.
  • Report damage or maintenance issues to supervisor.
  • Change, repair and replace motor vehicle tires, including the use of pneumatic tire changer, wedge and maul.
  • Maintain daily records of gasoline, oil, and diesel fuel dispensed.
  • Operate automatic vehicle wash for cars and trucks.
  • Inspect and perform minor maintenance on automatic vehicle wash equipment, including repair/replace washing wands, hoses, nozzles, brushes, soap lines and pump, and replenishing supplies related to said equipment.
  • Winter snow removal from vehicles and parking lot.
  • Ensure rental vehicles are ready for customers at appointed time and in good working condition.
  • Relocate university vehicles for special events.
  • Turn in found items left in vehicles to the department Lost and Found.

Required Qualifications*

  • Valid driver license with good driving record.
  • Requires working outdoors in all seasons and requires the ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to read, write, and perform simple math.
  • Must be a conscientious worker with good public relations skills.
  • Knowledge of vehicle mechanics.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle heavy equipment in confined areas.
  • Custodial experience required.
