Job Summary

This position serves as the electronics engineer for the research laboratories within the Kresge Hearing Research Institute.  The Electronics Engineer has four primary areas of responsibility:

  1. Innovative design and fabrication of new analog and digital instruments at component level including printed circuit board layout and programming for embedded microcomputers,
  2. Calibration of commercial electronic instruments and acoustic environments,
  3. Specification, installation, setup, maintenance, and repair of commercial and custom electronic equipment,
  4. Education and advice on technical solutions to problems of research design, interaction with vendors and technical support personnel, and operation of Electronic Shop facility.

Required Qualifications*

Senior:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position and 3-5 years of professional experience.  
  • Ability to work independently and to make independent decision on matters of significance and within the scope of projects, and to manage multiple research projects simultaneously.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a collaborative environment

Intermediate:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position and 1-3 years of professional experience.  
  • Ability to work independently and to make independent decision on matters of significance and within the scope of projects, and to manage multiple research projects simultaneously.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a collaborative environment

Desired Qualifications*

Experience with acoustics, audio devices, and auditory research; neural recording techniques and devices; and motion control systems.
