The University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-Dearborn) seeks an outstanding professional interested in becoming part of a strong enrollment management team as Registrar. The university is committed to a national model of new and academically based enrollment management as a campus-wide approach to growing from 9,300 to 12,000 students while maintaining quality and access. 

Key indicators of success for the position include:

  • Ability to articulate a vision and implement a plan for the development and future evolution of the registrar's functions and responsibilities in a service-oriented, enrollment management environment. 
  • University faculty, administration, and staff work collaboratively on registrar processes.
  • Successful leadership of the office of the registrar, including the mentoring and development of staff; established expertise in facilitating organizational development and change; and evidence of creativity and innovation within a strategic planning environment.
  • Demonstrated use of technology to successfully develop and maintain student information systems and services.

Responsibilities*

Working collaboratively with faculty and other enrollment/student life units, the Registrar will have a major leadership role in meeting the goals of the university.  As a direct report to the Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Life, the Registrar leads the development, implementation, and maintenance of best practices for records and registration technology based solutions that will enhance the university's ability to recruit and retain talented and diverse undergraduates within a strategic enrollment management framework.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Function as a key member of the enrollment management operational group that has a group goal of achieving sustainted undergraduate enrollment growith while maintaining quality;
  • Function as a team member on a variety of groups responsible for achieving university goals;
  • Provide strategic leadership to establish and maintain records and registration policies and processes as a key factor supporting student enrollment and success;
  • Develop and ensure the consistent application of policies and procedures controlling course and class maintenance, registration, classification, record maintenance, certification, residency determination, tuition assessment, data management, reporting, and the release of information;
  • Oversee the development and management of databases and information systems used to conduct the functions of faculty and student service;
  • Advise the administration, faculty, and students on the appropriate application of registration, records, residency, tuition, reporting, and data management policies and assist in the resolution of procedural problems;
  • Direct the preparation and distribution of informational materials to students, staff, and the general public regarding the functions, services and activities supported by the office;
  • Coordinate the activities and responsibilities of the office with central administrative offices, the academic units, other EMSL offices, and external agencies;
  • Oversee the collection and analysis of enrollment and related data and the preparation of official reports;
  • Develop and provide training and support to the university community for the university's student administration systems and their attendant data repositories;
  • Direct the administrative and operational activities of a service-oriented Registrar's Office, including budgets, programs, policies, and procedures to ensure efficient office operation; staff supervision and development and assessment.

Desired Qualifications*

  • The position requires a Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong working knowledge and experience working with FERPA
  • Minimum five years experience of progressive responsibility and demonstrated success in administering records and registration offices. 
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with the integral role of the Registrar's Office in serving students, faculty, and staff; working knowledge of Enrollment Management.
  • In-depth knowledge of government regulations and issues of compliance. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary student information system solutions, organizational management, process design, and research design.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in policy formulation, data analysis, and budgeting.
  • A demonstrated commitment to access and diversity is required.
  • A demonstrated ability to function effectively as a team member.
  • Exceptional research, quantitative, analytical, and computer skills are required
  • Exceptional written, spoken, and interpersonal communication skills are also required.
  • Preferred strong experience with Banner system.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-5:00 pm with flexibility required
