Responsibilities*

The Healthcare Analyst will work with our Research and Evaluation team, primarily with our survey research (Cover Michigan and the Michigan Physician Survey) and program evaluation projects for a variety of clients. Ideal candidates will have experience in analysing and understanding the complexities of health and human services policy in Michigan and nationally. Evaluation work will include proposal writing or contributing significantly to proposal submissions, designing evaluation plans in consultation with client needs, developing logic models, determining outcome and process measures, identifying data sources, conducting analysis and developing reports for client review and presentation. Survey work will include questionnaire design, analysis and developing and writing issue briefs or other written products. Experience and training with both qualitative and quantitative methods is desirable. This individual must be comfortable working in a team environment and able to work with a diverse group of colleagues, clients, subject matter experts and project staff on an on-going basis, while working on multiple concurrent projects. Project management skills and the ability to adhere to tight deadlines are a must.

Required Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree in public health, social work, social science or related field (with health policy and research/evaluation focus). 
  • Minimum of 2-4 years’ related experience, including a knowledge of key health policy issues.
  • Experience in conducting program evaluation, including developing evaluation plans, logic models, and measures; understanding of formative, summative and participatory methods desired.
  • Demonstrated expertise with survey methodology, analysis, data visualization and managing survey data sets. Understanding application of survey data to analyze health and human service policy issues.
  • Strong quantitative skills and knowledge of descriptive statistics, statistical tests and statistical inference; Proficiency in working with data analytical software (preferably SAS, and/or SPSS).
  • Highly motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently within defined guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Understanding of appropriate uses for and limitations of administrative/claims data in analysis of health care issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health care financing and delivery, population health, access to care, and health care claims and administrative data.
  • Experience with grant writing and seeking grant funded opportunities.
  • Data visualization training or skills
