Founded in 2011, the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation (IHPI) brings together multidisciplinary health services researchers to improve quality, safety, equity and affordability of health care services. IHPI's Data & Methods Hub currently maintains a collection of large healthcare claims databases that are used for research purposes. In order to continue enhancing and supporting the use of these data resources, IHPI is in need of a database administrator to assist with data management, cohort creation, and process optimization.
This position involves a wide range of tasks including data management and programming related to large national claims datasets. Specifically, the position involves providing both independent and collaborative programming support including:
· Writing reusable, testable, and efficient code
· Implementation of security and data protection
· Integration of data storage solutions
· Managing large database structures
· Mapping out the conceptual design for both new and current databases
· As needed, writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for data dictionaries
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information, related field, or equivalent programming experience· At least 1 year of directly related experiece.
Demonstrated ability to use SAS, SQL, Python or other programs/languages necessary for database administration
Direct experience in supporting and managing major projects using large administrative datasets such as Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial insurance claims
At minimum, SQL knowledge including the ability to write update, select, insert, and join commands.
Ability to be consistently and extremely detail-oriented.
Experience with complex data structures and linkages between data sources.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Proven ability to write clear and concise technical documentation, summaries of various methodologies, and descriptions of programs. Excellent communication, both oral and written in the English language, and interpersonal skills are essential.
Ability to prioritize, organize, and efficiently work on multiple projects at the same time.
Flexibility and ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple teams.
Formal training in statistics is encouraged for this position due to the complexities of IHPI’s data.
