Job Summary

The Michigan Medicine office of the Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs (EVPMA) is seeking an experienced Senior Business Consultant to manage administrative duties that support the operations and processes of the leadership team. This position will report to Chief Administrative Officer, Michigan Medicine / Chief of Staff, Office of the EVPMA, and will be charged with leading or participating on teams that further the institutional priorities and establish the processes to support them.

Responsibilities*

The Sr. Business Consultant will be responsible for a portfolio of projects that may be related to operations, facilities, performance metrics, incentive plans and budgets. He/she will function as a representative of the EVPMA office and a primary point of contact for faculty and staff involved in various projects. This may include involvement in mature projects, or early involvement in developing project teams and leadership roles.   

Types of projects that will fall under this domain could include:

  • track Michigan Medicine priorities and assist in the development of the following year priorities. 
  • conduct monthly financial reviews to ensure alignment to budget
  • create processes and standard protocols to support efficient executive office functions
  • shepherd major initiatives through the approval process with executive leaders
  • work collaboratively with human resources to develop and coordinate the implementation of incentive and merit programs
  • provide feasibility analysis for clinical programs or facilities
  • coordinate implementation of new operational or programmatic initiatives   
  • other ad hoc projects

The Sr. Business Consultant will be expected to work closely with key stakeholders and propose options for resource issues or conflict. He/she is expected to be adaptable and highly flexible to a dynamic health care environment with many variables. Moreover, a high degree of independence and resourcefulness, requiring minimal day-to-day supervision, is desired.  

Successful candidates will have a strong administrative health care background with emphasis on project / process management skills, data analysis, teamwork, problem solving and adaptability.  

Required Qualifications*

  • Required: Bachelor's degree plus at least 5 years of relevant work experience.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Administration or other related degree.  Strong business, operations management, or project management expertise is preferred.
  • Preferred: Over 5 years’ experience in a health care, higher education and/or academic health center setting.  Previous assignments that include business intelligence analytics, financial analysis and project execution preferred.
  • Considerable communication and presentation skills adaptable to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to work across multiple functions (Finance, IT, HR, Strategy, Communication, etc.) and demonstrated success in quickly developing appropriate domain knowledge from each to support more robust solutions.
  • Ability to analyze problems, develop options and recommendations for leadership, and execute solutions.   
  • Ability to assess competing priorities, manage workflow and meet operational deadlines in a complex organization.

A working knowledge of University of Michigan policies and business procedures is preferred.
