Job Summary


The Statistical Analysis of Biomedical and Educational Research (SABER) unit is the data coordinating center for several multi-center clinical trials and observational studies.



This position provides financial/administrative research support for several different areas of SABER’s research enterprise.

  • Process purchases and invoices using the appropriate U of M systems, including invoices for study sites. Maintain receipts for all purchases.
  • Reconcile monthly SOAs, maintain electronic and/or paper financial files, resolve A-21 audit findings, facilitate journal entries and work with department administrators for budgeting needs.
  • Process staff travel and complete expense reports.
  • Prepare financial analyses for new grants. 
  • Maintain budget projection sheets and review with managing director.
  • Monitor budget and make recommendations regarding the purchase of equipment or software.
  • Re-budget or facilitate grant effort revision, maintain current and projected effort estimates and time sheet approval.
  • Facilitate new staff hiring: job postings, interviews, hiring procedures, new staff access and office/equipment set up.
  • Provide support for hosting large offsite meetings, including hotel room block negotiations and contracting, meeting venue, meals, and audiovisual support.
  • Provide word processing, as needed, for external documents and reports such as those prepared for data safety monitoring boards.
  • Other activities as needed.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 3-5 years’ experience supporting clinical research administration.
  • Expert knowledge using Microsoft Office Suite products: Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.
  • Familiarity and experience with University of Michigan administrative and business tools such as Business Objects, MReports and other MPathways systems, and Concur.  
  • Proven excellent communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, good judgment, and effectively manage multiple assignments.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in proofreading, spelling, and grammar.
  • Ability to professionally represent the group to both internal and external staff.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge of UM financial practices, policies, procedures, and regulations strongly preferred.
  • Experience preparing grant proposals, as well as experience with eResearch electronic PAF and proposal submission.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA).
