It’s on Us Peer Educators are student leaders who are trained to facilitate interactive and educational trainings and programs regarding sexual violence and bystander intervention. Through presentations and workshops, Peer Educators will discuss and educate on the issues of sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, intimate partner violence, as well as reporting options and resources on and off campus. Peer bystander intervention has been proven to be effective in reducing students’ acceptance of sexual violence and creates opportunities to engage with their peers as student leaders.
Peer Educators will develop and cultivate valuable skills including public speaking and facilitation skills, teamwork, creativity, leadership, and critical thinking while also having the opportunity to build upon one’s resume and network with other students with similar passions.
Peer Educators will be required to:
· Attend 20 hours of training sessions.*
· Sign up to co-facilitate workshops, coordinate events, and facilitate trainings averaging 4 hours per week during the winter, spring, summer, and fall semesters.
· Participate in debriefing after each presentation and attend staff meetings as needed with the group.
*Accepting the position includes a weekend-long training. If you are unable to commit to the FULL training, you will not be eligible for the position.
· Be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at UM–Flint for Winter and Fall 2018.
· Have maintained at least a 2.75 GPA.
· Be in good conduct standing
· Strong desire to engage in anti-violence work
· Participate in an interview with program organizers.
· Make a commitment to serve as a peer educator from January 10– November 30.
· Experience in peer facilitation
· Experience in anti-violence work, activism, or research
· Strong knowledge of university community and needs
