This medical technologist specialist position will support Hematopathologists at North Campus Research Center. The technologist will: Perform morphologic reviews of bone marrow studies performed at Michigan Medicine and received from outside institutions. Perform screening of peripheral blood smears and body fluids identified for pathologist review . Routinely sit in on path review/bone marrow signout. Assist pathologists with SoftPathDx and SoftLabMic as it relates to bone marrows and path reviews. Troubleshoot issues associated with bone marrow cases and slide review cases. Assist with training of fellows, residents, and medical students. Assist with telepathology. Work collaboratively with others to report results in a timely, efficient manner and to maintain a positive work environment. Recognize problems and follow up appropriately. Follow quality control and quality assurance procedures. Perform lab and hospital designated competency assessments. Adhere to established laboratory procedures and policies. Participate in the continuous improvement process and continuing education for lab personnel.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or biological science is required as well as certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist. A minimum of 3 yrs experience in a clinical laboratory displaying expertise in performing peripheral blood, body fluid and bone marrow differentials (including hematology/oncology cases).
- Must have: the demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively with other medical personnel in both verbal and written form; demonstrated ability to independently organize and prioritize work, and to exercise initiative in recognizing and solving problems. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse team.
- The ideal candidate will have solid experience with peripheral blood, body fluid and bone marrow differentials. He/she will have the ability to work independently, multitask, be efficient and accurate in performing and reporting tests and possess excellent troubleshooting, customer service and interpersonal skills.
Experience with Softcomputer products: SoftLabMic and PathDx.
This full time, 40 hour position is on the day shift and is M-F.
