Responsibilities*

 Coordinates procedural preparation and follow up for patients with complex cardiac arrhythmias and disorders. 

Collaborates with other health care professionals, such as physicians, referring offices, scheduling, nursing, and diagnostic services to provide a coordinated plan of care for our patients.  Reviews patient medical records from referring physicians and establishes diagnosis and treatment plan with the medical staff. 

Orders and reviews cardiac monitors. 

Orders labs and initiates anticoagulation as necessary.

Provide coordination of EP Clinics and follow-up of EP patients. 

Provide ongoing support for consult EP fellows interrogating in-patient devices and programing as directed.

Provide ongoing Cardiology patient support per clinical and QI protocols. 

Participate in ongoing research studies and in the development, implementation, evaluation and outcome monitoring of clinical care for Cardiology patients. 

Coordinate and follow-up of Cardiology patient test and procedures. 

Provide expert outpatient and tele-management care to patients, including hypertension management, device management and CHF management. 

Communicate plans of care with patients, family members, physicians and other consulting services. 

Work closely with Cardiology physicians, including Catheterization, Electrophysiology, and EKG faculty, in providing expert care to Cardiology patients in the Clinic setting. 

Develops, evaluates, and reviews current nursing protocols and standards of care for cardiac patients utilizing current research and clinical practice guidelines. 

Participates in the development and implementation of ongoing educational updates for the cardiac nursing program. 

Works collaboratively with colleagues to develop, evaluate and revise patient education programs and materials.  Develops tools to evaluate patient education outcomes from various educational interventions.

Participates in clinical research with the arrhythmia program Provides coverage of off-site clinics

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C (Includes B).
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level E.

Required Qualifications*

Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan. 

Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years RN experience caring for adult patients in ICU, CCU, cardiology step-down.

ACLS certified or in process of recertifying with expert telemetry skills.

Device evaluation and programing experience required

Advanced Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation

Previous experiences using clinical protocols to make decisions for adult patients

Experience in independent decision making for patients with various cardiac diseases.

Wide variety of computer skills including Word and Excel.

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communications skills are required and the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a care team with the goal of service excellence and patient family centered care.

Demonstrated clinical expertise in cardiology practice including 12 lead EKG interpretation, diagnostic test interpretation, cardiac medications, emergency management of cardiac patients, current clinical practice guidelines in cardiology, lipid and risk factor management, and secondary prevention.

Positive, can-do attitude, great team player.

Desired Qualifications*

Bachelors of Science in Nursing

Telephone triage experience in ambulatory care

Knowledge of the University of Michigan Hospital Nursing policies and practice.

Demonstrated accountability/dependability as evidenced, for example, by a stellar attendance record; by completion of mandatories and unit based competencies within an established time frame; by meeting deadlines and completing required work.

Work Schedule

Hours: 40 hours

Shift/ Hours:  Day/ Evening shift, Monday- Friday, 8 hour shifts, with on call rotation responsibilities on nights and weekends
