Conducts research related to animal studies. Generate and maintain colonies of genetically modified mice. Phenotype mice with emphasis on metabolic phenotypes. Tissue collection, sectioning, immunohistological assays; neuronal projections and architecture. Molecular biology and genetic techniques: DNA cloning; DNA/RNA purification; ChIP assays; qPCR; Translating Ribosome Affinity Purification (TRAP) Seq. Protein analysis: protein purification, immunoprecipitation, immunoblotting, ELISA, detecting protein localization using immunocytochemistry, live cell imaging. Cell culture and transfection.
Assists in formulating research methods and suggesting options for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions, and collaborates in the development of new techniques. Conducts analysis of data, interprets and implements research methodology based on outcome of analysis.
Trains users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, explains and demonstrates technology and equipment capabilities, operations, limitations and outcomes. Laboratory maintenance. May supervise students, exempt and non-exempt research and support personnel.
The applicant must be highly motivated with a strong work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills, including reliability and sense of humor; detail oriented with excellent organizational and communication skills, able to work independently and collaboratively on a research team, ability to multitask, work with multiple individuals, and proficient in English. Bachelor’s Degree in a biology science related field. 2-3 years of experience in a related field.
