Responsibilities*

What skills would you master?

  • You will prepare and deliver medications as needed to surgical rooms
  • You will aseptically compound sterile medications 
  • You will prepare and distribute controlled substances to anesthesia providers 
  • Working directly with the Pharmacist, you will assist with auditing controlled substance utilization
  • You will stock medication shelves and anesthesia trays, manage inventory, review expiration dating, and return excess stock to inventory
  • We will teach you how to fill our Omnicell automated dispensing cabinets
  • You will triage telephone inquiries
  • You will have the opportunity to assist with training of staff

Required Qualifications*

What are the minimum qualifications?

Pharmacy Technician Associate:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program is desirable
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary

Pharmacy Technician Intermediate:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program is desirable
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary
  • One or more years of relevant pharmacy practice or equivalent experience is necessary.

Pharmacy Technician Senior:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program is desirable
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.
  • Two or more years of relevant pharmacy practice or equivalent experience is necessary.

Licensure & Certification

Newly hired pharmacy technicians must obtain a valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their hire date.  This can include a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License or a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License. If a technician obtains a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their date of hire, they must obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License within 1 year of hire date or before the Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License expires, whichever is sooner, in order to maintain employment. 

Work Schedule

This is a full time position. The schedule for this position includes a day and evening shift rotation, working every second weekend (Saturday and Sunday), and holiday coverage. You will rotate between the University Hospital (Ann Arbor), the Cardiovascular Center (Ann Arbor) and our newerst facility, Brighotn Center for Specialty Care.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
