Job Summary

The Department of Cardiac Surgery, Section of Health Services and Research Quality and the Division of Pediatric Cardiology within the Department of Pediatrics and Communicable Diseases at the University of Michigan Congenital Heart Center are currently seeking a Clinical Information Analyst to join our congenital heart database team.  This position will be located in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center.

Responsibilities*

This position’s primary responsibilities will be the processing and collection of clinical information for submission to the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Heart Surgery Database, the National Cardiovascular Data Registry’s IMPACT database, and for the Congenital Cardiac Catheterization Project on Outcomes.  Involvement with special projects or activities related to the quality of clinical data may requested by program leadership.  This is a 40 hour/week (Monday – Friday) day shift position.  Daily responsibilities are as follows:

Collect information from a variety of clinical sources, including pre-, intra-, post-operative/procedure, and follow-up. 

Enter data into the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) congenital database

Enter data into multiple pediatric cardiology databases, including the National Cardiovascular Data Registry’s IMPACT database, the Congenital Cardiac Catheterization Project on Outcomes, and others, as necessary

Review data for completion and accuracy and correspond with relevant team members as necessary

Additional responsibilities within the role may be considered based on the successful candidate's demonstrated exemplary performance of the aforementioned job responsibilities.

 

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a health care related field
  • Basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology
  • Candidate must have strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills necessary to work on a multidisciplinary team in a highly collaborative environment
  • Must be an energetic, self-motivated, and highly dependable worker with the ability to efficiently and effectively multitask, prioritize, and problem solve. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention-to-detail required 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Clinical background, especially related to congenital heart surgery and/or pediatric cardiology is preferred
  • Medical transcription
  • Data abstraction from medical records
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication 
  • Experience with clinical registries and/or database experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency utilizing Microsoft Word/Excel/Access and navigating patient’s electronic medical record data (experience with EPIC preferred).
