Job Summary

Health Information Technology & Services, the IT and information services department for the University of Michigan’s academic medical center, seeks an experienced content strategist to join its web and user experience team as we improve and re-imagine how we serve our customers online.

The person in this newly created role will lead the shaping and execution of content strategy for the department across its web properties, including a customer-facing website, a knowledge-base for customers and staff, and a staff intranet.

As a content strategist, you’ll work closely with colleagues on the HITS communications team and with stakeholders and domain experts across the organization to understand how best to deliver valuable content to our users, developing and advocating for best practices for the entire content lifecycle, from concept to structure to production to maintenance.

Your day to day work would include:

  • Collaborating with content coordinators to craft content that’s tailored to customer needs, ensuring information is consistent, accurate, and of value to our users.
  • Using your creative problem-solving skills to interpret findings from customer research, translating those findings into ideas to improve the design, focus, and structure of web content.
  • Consulting with other teams to understand their communication goals, and creating a plan to structure, publish, and maintain content that supports their projects and their users.
  • Using your knowledge of customer needs, mental models, and behaviors to inform ongoing user experience research, in partnership with the UX and web team.
  • Draw insights from the combination of user research and quantitative data in the form of web analytics and survey results to make decisions about how well our web content is working for our users.
  • Champion the qualities of great web content, advocating for the end user and demonstrating how content is an integral part of our philosophy to provide service that’s simple, correct, and direct, delivered with empathy, efficiency, and pride.

You’ll be joining a close-knit, creative team that values learning, experimenting, and collaboration. We’re passionate about solving challenging information problems to make life easier for our users: the patients, families, physicians, faculty, staff, and students of Michigan Medicine. We value a balanced work-life, and offer flexibility to make your schedule work best.
