Starting salary may vary depending on qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
This position will be filled at the Senior level salary range of $67,692 - $88,000 as the primary goal. The requirements listed below reflect the Senior level expectation. However, applicants with lesser experience are encouraged to apply and may be considered if primary goal is not met. Lesser experienced applicants will be reviewed at an Intermediate level salary range of $56,538 - $73,500.
The web content, software and application systems the university provides for students, faculty and staff must be compliant with accessibility guidelines. These systems are both developed in-house by ITS and by third parties. These systems often have gaps in accessibility for certain populations of users, due to oversights by vendors and limited resources and expertise in-house. ITS has a stewardship responsibility to design and test for universal access and adherence to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) and American with Disabilities Act (ADA).
This position provides technical support for accessibility compliance within enterprise systems, web applications and websites. Work includes enterprise-level assignments, new products and cross-functional assignments. Collaborates with other staff to prioritize tasks, run scans, test systems, deliver reports and coordinate process of remediation and communication related to accessibility compliance issues and ensuring procedures and standards are followed. Contributes to assessment for accessibility compliance during upgrades and development, including working on projects from request through implementation. Builds customer relationships through active listening and frequent communication with customers and by resolving incidents and requests, following up with customers on incidents escalated to other support groups. Collaborates with stakeholders, customers, users and technical staff to ensure process is continuously improved. This position is a part of the Mobile/Portal/Web team, reporting to the Mobile/Portal/Web team resource manager.

- Collaborate with IT Services, Communications and Accessibility Program staff to ensure compliance with policies and standards around identity graphics, web content and online accessibility.
- Research, evaluate and enforce web standards for usability and accessibility, including analysis of systems and code.
- Provide guidance for developers and teams in applying accessibility attributes to markup including ARIA.
- Contribute technical efforts to accessibility consulting and testing activities across ITS groups.
- Contribute to educational and training efforts about accessibility standards and compliance for ITS and campus.
- Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Equity and Support Services staff engaged in supporting campus accessibility complaints.
- Work as part of coalition with IT community to promote accessibility.
- Contribute to technical assessments of vendor software and systems during RFPs.
- Participate in the Cross-ITS Web Accessibility Group including regular meetings and outreach.
- Act as technical contributor and coordinator for usage of Deque Accessibility Testing tool suite.
- Provide cross-training for accessibility testing within teams.
- Follow direction of Lead on accessibility testing team.
- Embed within teams with project management duties during upgrades and launches to ensure accessibility testing requirements are fulfilled within testing and release plan.
- Test systems, software and web content using the Comply testing tool.
- Contribute to test plans and release plans that encompass accessibility compliance.
- Generate and provide reports for teams/projects using Comply and other assessment tools.
- Provide data for use during regular status calls with vendors working towards accessibility improvements within products deployed for campus.
- Convert error and issue reports into work units for development teams towards remediation of issues across the organization.
- Research and stay up to date on accessibility guidelines and best practices.
- Promote the ITS Web Strategy, general usability and user-centered design practices.
- Consult on code issues and potential fixes for compliance on a technical level.
- Educate and enforce the use of the QA processes and methodologies within the project teams.
- Work with appropriate resources in defining testable Accessibility Requirements and/or Accessibility Use Cases and Accessibility Acceptance Criteria.
- Work towards an understanding of all functional and technical requirements and use cases for projects and upgrades.
- Develop automated tests using tools including Selenium and Comply.
- Contribute to accessibility design documents to ensure accessibility requirements are met, including approving documents generated by other groups.
- Perform project QA duties.
- Escalate outstanding issues and challenges to the appropriate resources in a timely manner.
- Align testing to overall goals for accessibility compliance at the organizational level.
- Complete required QA Accessibility documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
- Execute all Accessibility test cases according to the QA Accessibility Test Plan.
While not limited to the following, in this role the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate the following organizational competencies:

- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, correctly, knowledgeably and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively solve complex problems, using analysis, creative thinking, and input from others to improve processes, solve complex problems and develop effective strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Information Design, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Instructional Design, Quality Assurance, Learning Technology, Assistive Technology or a related field and/or equivalent combination of education, certification and experience.
- Minimum of four (4) years of demonstrated experience in a related role requiring confidentiality, timeliness, customer service, organization, prioritization, troubleshooting and working independently to successfully conduct systems and process analysis and design.
- Understanding of why and how to build products that are accessible to everyone, including those with disabilities.
- Knowledge of Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines and specifications, minimally WCAG 2.0 guidelines. Familiarity with WAI-ARIA, UAAG and ATAG specifications.
- Experience in developing training materials.
- Experience with standards-compliant front-end development and accessibility best practices.
- Experience with digital accessibility and/or automated accessibility evaluation tools (Chrome Accessibility Developer Tools, pa11y, aXe, etc.).
- Experience in applying accessibility attributes to markup including ARIA.
- Experience in communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences via email, letters, and in person to teams and customers.
- Ability to perform research, analyze qualitative and quantitative data, and convert findings into reports for varying audiences.
- Experience with one or more of the following: magnification, speech recognition, usage of screen readers, color contrast, keyboard-only navigation and other accessibility testing techniques and tools.
- Proven ability to contribute to project teams to meet customer expectations.
- Demonstrated skills in business systems analysis, design and system testing.
- Demonstrated skills in gathering, translating, prioritizing and documenting system requirements.
- Demonstrated proficiency with current computer technology and applications (e.g. Business Process Mapping software, word processing, spreadsheet and collaboration applications).
- Demonstrated skills in communication.
- Knowledge of assistive technologies and accessibility-related software including JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, Window-Eyes, ZoomText, MAGic, Dragon NaturallySpeaking or other speech recognition software.
- Experience using accessibility testing tools and automated testing tools.
- Knowledge about iOS and Android accessibility features.
- General knowledge of systems development methodologies (including iterative approaches).
- May require on-call availability and may require working during non-business hours and on weekends.
- Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance is required.
May require travel to various location on and off university campus.
