The Assistant Director of Residence Education for Student Staff Selection and Training oversees the comprehensive selection, training, evaluation and development for undergraduate live-in resident staff, and community center staff in both undergraduate and graduate communities within diverse residential communities housing over 12,000 students in residence halls and apartments.
Selection of student staff (35%): The Assistant Director coordinates the recruitment, marketing, and selection of a diverse and talented pool of student staff, while work in collaboration with professional staff in Housing’s Diversity & Inclusion office.
- Manages eligibility of student staff each term and work with staff that fall below required GPA to ensure academic success.
- Serves as liaison with Human Resources colleagues to ensure compliance with university policies.
- Collaborates with campus partners in creating pipelines for robust talent management.
- Directs the process for staff placement that best serves the unique needs of residential communities.
- Coordinate staff evaluations and feedback processes for student staff.
Training of student staff (35%): In collaboration with campus colleagues, coordinates training for student staff to ensure preparation to serve students in their residential communities.
- Develops training outcomes and designs training experiences for student staff, concurrent with assessment strategies to measure effectiveness.
- Identifies training opportunities to integrate technology into delivery of training and further digital literacy skills.
- Coordinates training programs for the start of each terms in addition to preparing staff who begin their positions at off-peak times during the academic year.
Department Leadership (30%): Collaborates with peers to assess the residential experience and direct training to optimize student experiences.
- Supervise a full-time Administrative Assistant.
- Represent Residence Education and Housing on campus committees and tasks forces related to student staff selection and training.
- Manage department budgets related to student staff selection and training.
- Facilitate ALA 421: Creating Inclusive Communities, the ResStaff pre-employment course about social identity and building inclusive residential communities and assist in coordinating course logistics.
- Serve in an on-call duty rotation with other members of Central Staff for Residence Education.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Educational Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum two years of full-time professional experience in a college or university housing and residential life setting or similarly applicable experience.
- Experience with supervision, training and selection, student conduct, crisis response, living learning communities, educational programming, working with faculty, and working with a diverse population is desirable.
- The ability to communicate and relate effectively with diverse students, staff and faculty.
This position is supervised by the Director of Residence Education for Undergraduate Housing.
