Job Summary

The Office for Health Equity and Inclusion (OHEI) invites applications for the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Senior Program Manager for DEI Strategy and Implementation.  The Program Manager will work closely with the Director of OHEI to implement the strategic plan of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the University of Michigan Academic Medical Center.  The individual will collaborate across the organization to build and execute an engagement and activation strategy, increasing the impact and effectiveness of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.


  • Execute the strategic plan for diversity, equity and inclusion programming

  • Serve as liaison to campus partners and external vendors

  • Facilitate work with leaders, staff and learners

  • Measure and assure program quality and effectiveness



  • Ensure aligned and strategic vision/execution across Academic Medical Center focused on an inclusive culture, improving attraction/retention/engagement of talent

  • Build internal relationships to partner, foster and create buy-in for the university’s diversity, equity & inclusion initiatives and create strategies to foster an open and affirming culture for all staff

  • Ensure the DEI implementation in the organization are in alignment with the Academic Medical Center’s mission

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish a delivery plan for culture change.

  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, leaders and influencers

  • Build collaboration with campus partners and outside vendors to develop and implement formal diversity and awareness programs



  • Serve as the primary contact for DEI related activities

  • Develop a set of professional processes, communications, training opportunities, events and activities to reinforce the culture of DEI at the Academic Medical Center

  • Assist in coordinating the DEI communications and public relations activities

  • Carry out a gap analysis of current culture and partner to lead efforts for culture transformation activities

  • Partner to ensure seamless integration of DEI related content into existing platforms, structures and delivery systems

  • Represent the Office for Health Equity and Inclusion (OHEI) to other administrators and outside agencies

  •    Overseeing the DEI Education and Training to develop and execute strategic education and training plan for diversity, equity and inclusion for the    Academic Medical Center

  • Develop metrics for measuring the effectiveness of diversity initiatives implemented and prepare periodic reports

  • Keep current on DEI programs and developments by maintaining contact with others in the field (e.g., professional association and educational groups, and professional development efforts).

  • Responsible for implementation of change management in the framework of DEI

  • Attend all university campus related DEI committee meetings

  • Direct communication to Michigan Medicine DEI Implementation Leads

  • Provide functional supervision to oversee and direct work of DEI team

  • Establish monthly Implementation Lead meetings

  • Partner with HR on DEI related topics

  • Serve as a resource, mentor and advisor

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree and equivalent combination of education, training and experience

  • Progressively responsible leadership experience and demonstrated leadership skills

  • 7+ years of experience in program management

  • Ability to work across different functions and build relationships with stakeholders 

  • Ability to clearly articulate and reinforce training strategies and the university’s plan for development diversity

  • Forward-thinking, detailed-oriented and personable with excellent presentation skills

  • Ability to collect, analyze and share data via various mediums including Excel, PowerPoint, and to summarize talking points

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Excellent management and organizational skills

  • Well-developed writing, editing and proofreading abilities

  • Strong project management skills to handle complex projects simultaneously

  • Ability to work well under pressure, with proven time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment and to organize complex information

  • Ability to demonstrate awareness and understanding of multiple facets of diversity:  cultural, ethnic, racial, religious, gender, educational, age, sexual orientation, linguistic, professional, and other differences that make us unique

  •  Comfort and confidence in working to drive change with leaders and employees on all levels

Desired Qualifications*

Master Degree in related field is preferred  

Previous experience working in the DEI framework strongly preferred

Previous supervisory experience

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday 8:00-4:30p
