With minimal supervision, repair, calibrate, and maintain medical equipment and support systems of varying complexity within Michigan Medicine.   Primary area of responsibility is as part of the off-campus clinics team supporting medical equipment located at surgery centers, clinics, and other areas as assigned.  Responsibilities include inspecting, installing, repairing, preventative maintenance, and other support of medical equipment.  Equipment includes, but is not limited to, video and endoscopic systems, physiological monitors, anesthesia equipment, OR tables, OR Lights, infusion devices, exercise equipment, ophthalmic equipment, sleep lab and other equipment as assigned. 

Work performed is documented in the work order database system called AIMS.  Additional duties include the identification and preparation of parts and materials orders necessary to complete repairs and preventive maintenance on assigned devices.  Cross training of other Biomedical Engineering Technicians is also required.

Primary job site is at off-campus locations, primarily in SE Michigan, however, duties may also be performed at the main medical campus in Ann Arbor.  Anticipated coverage hours are M-F 6:30a – 5:30p (subject to change).  These will be 8 hours shifts, with staggered start and stop times.  Technicians applying for these positions must be able to work any shift within the proposed timeframe, in order to provide backup coverage.  The technicians must have and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license and be able to drive a motor vehicle.

Required Qualifications*

  • An Associate’s degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, or completion of an equivalent Military training program is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience repairing and maintaining complex biomedical equipment and systems
  • Knowledge and experience with computer networking fundamentals
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment, preferably in a hospital environment

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the U-M Skilled Trades Union, Inc., which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
