Job Summary

Michigan Medicine’s HITS department seeks a Business System Analyst to support the EHR (electronic health record) functionality covering the operating rooms/surgical services, interventional procedure rooms, diagnostic vascular unit, cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs.  Primary responsibilities include supporting the Epic OpTime and Cupid applications, as well as third party software in use by the operating rooms. 

Responsibilities*

The Business System Analyst is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Work with end users to ensure the system meets the organization’s business needs.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with Epic software.
  • Analyze end users’ needs versus software configuration options.
  • Ability to coordinate analysis across multiple groups within HITS and hospital operations as needed.
  • Prioritize and implement approved changes to the EMR system.
  • Maintain regular communication with Epic representatives.
  • Participate in training and support of end users.
  • Troubleshoot problems and questions.
  • Participate in rotating team on call responsibilities.
  • Coordinate software updates and changes.
  • Review and test each new release or upgrade bundle.
  • Analyze new functionality to determine impact on users and configuration effort.
  • Collect information regarding potential system enhancement needs.
  • Prepare details of specifications as needed.
  • Support related Third Party software applications
  • Troubleshoot server connections and interfaces as needed.
  • Manage upgrades and vendor relationships.
  • Monitor usage and explore integration opportunities.

Required Qualifications*

Senior Position Requirements: 

  • BA/BS degree or better and 5+ years of relevant experience in healthcare industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform business/workflow analysis, document business requirements, create scope documents, and standardize operating procedures.
  • Ability to conduct investigation, analysis and resolution of projects in a self-directed and timely manner.
  • Ability to engage support and coordinate projects across multiple application and operational teams.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of communication/collaboration tools, including spreadsheets, presentation and word processing software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, organizational skills and understanding of LEAN principals.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to support multiple clinical and administrative user groups.
  • Share in rotating on call responsibility, including evenings and weekends.

Intermediate Position Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree or better and 3+ years of relevant experience in healthcare industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience and certification in any Epic applications, particularly: OpTime, Anesthesia, and Cupid.
  • Experience related to Perioperative Services, Operating Rooms, Surgical Services, Procedure Rooms, or Cardiology.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience with Service Now help desk software.
