  • Provide for the daily care and handling of laboratory animals, mainly rodents.
  • Identify clinical and behavioral signs of illness in animals and report accordingly.
  • Understand and follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quality Assurance Standards.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School diploma and up to 1 year of paid animal experience.
  • Certification of American Association for Laboratory Animal Science – Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician within 4 months of eligibility.  
  • Must be able to function positively both independently and in a team setting.
  • Must be able to communicate and work effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to work between a  level of 8” above the floor and up to 7’ above the floor.
  • Requires pushing and pulling of equipment weighing up to 1,000 pounds and performing repetitive motions over extended periods of time.
  • Requires considerable use of arms, legs and activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and the handling of materials which may weigh as much as 50 pounds.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree.
  • Paid, hands-on animal experience at a farm, pet store, zoo, animal rehabilitation center, or through animal-related course work, etc.
  • Some knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in animal care and laboratory activities.
  • Some knowledge of animal research and the principles of medical asepsis.
  • Experience working with rodents or providing daily care to rodents is highly desirable.

Work Schedule

Full time/40 hrs weekly/Day shift/M-F/Some weekends and Holidays

Work Locations

May vary between buildings on North, Medical and Central Campuses.

Additional Information

  • This position is considered critical staff under University Reduced Operations definition and an annual influenza vaccination or proof of exemption may be required.
  • Candidates will be asked to provide proof of degrees, licenses and certifications.
