The employee will act as lab manager for the laboratory of Russell Ryan in the University of Michigan Department of Pathology, and will assist in projects related to functional genomics and transcriptional regulation in lymphoid malignancies. The Ryan Lab will utilize cutting-edge tools for the genome-wide analysis of enhancer function and regulation in normal and malignant cell populations. Areas of focus include transcriptional regulation by Notch signaling in lymphoma, and enhancer-dependent regulation of MYC and other major lymphoma oncogenes.
- Lab manager duties (50% of time) will include:
- Oversight of other research staff
- Ordering, organizing and inventorying research equipment and materials
- General lab safety & compliance
- Scientific and administrative record-keeping
- Communicating & exchanging research materials with off-site collaborators.
- Biological research technician duties (50% of time) may include:
- Mammalian cell culture
- Basic molecular biology techniques (plasmid preparation, cloning, mutagenesis)
- Lentivirus production and use for genetic manipulation of cell lines
- Targeted genome editing or manipulation (CRISPR-Cas9 system)
- Chromatin immunoprecipitation of histone marks and transcription factors (ChIP-Seq)
- Next-generation sequencing library preparation and data production
- Retrieving and processing human lymphoma samples from tissue or blood.
- All work and data must be meticulously recorded and organized
- BA or BS required. A Master’s degree in the biological sciences is required for the Intermediate level job title. Strong applicants with less than a Master’s degree may be considered for the title of Research Laboratory Specialist Associate.
- Experience in mammalian cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques required. 4-5 years of relevant research laboratory experience (pre- or post-graduation) required for this job title. Applicants with only 1-3 years’ relevant experience may be considered for the title of Research Laboratory Specialist Associate.
- The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual committed to a career in biological research, and intending to be a long-term employee of the lab.

Work will be performed at the Ryan lab, which was established in July 2017. The lab is primarily affiliated with the University of Michigan Department of Pathology, and is located in the Life Sciences Institute in the U-M Central Campus. As a new laboratory, some of our initial projects are conducted in collaboration with established labs in the at U-M, as well as with off-site collaborators at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s hospital, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Broad Institute.
