Job Summary

The Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery has an opening for an experienced, self-motivated, team oriented Patient Services Assistant.  This position is located in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at CW Mott Children’s Hospital.  This role will be to provide skilled support and work collaboratively with other members of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Team.


This position will include a variety of patient support tasks including:

  • Check-in duties
  • Check-out duties
  • Provide a warm welcome to patients entering the clinic
  • Explain a variety of forms and obtain patient signatures as required
  • Schedule follow-up appointments
  • Schedule specialty tests
  • Collect co-pays
  • Enter charge information into system
  • Reconcile drawers
  • Complete closing paperwork for drawers
  • Drop daily deposits
  • Communicate and work collaboratively with all clinic personnel (MA, faculty, residents, nurses, OR Schedulers) to address patient needs and issues when identified
  • Print medical information to facilitate the patients visit
  • Provide directions to other clinic locations (ie – Radiology and Orthotics & Prosthetics)
  • Call for interpreters and transporters
  • Manage outside Radiology imaging by downloading CD’s into system
  • Process documents to central imaging
  • Fax completed PT orders to appropriate locations
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled
  • Attend work group meetings as scheduled
  • Other duties as assigned

The successful candidate will be required to actively participate in the department’s Lean initiatives, Service Excellence programs, maintain M-learning compliance, specific procedure competencies and knowledge of regulatory agency requirements.  

Required Qualifications*

The preferred candidate will be responsible for meeting the highest standard of customer service while facilitating the communication between patients and families, general public, payers, referring physicians and other healthcare providers.  Basic medical terminology competency is required.  Candidates should have the appropriate skill set to be able to manage a fast paced work environment, heavy workload and be able to work a flexible schedule, per clinic need.  Applicants must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and work successfully in a team oriented atmosphere.  Ability to type at least 50 wpm and experience with email programs.  The successful candidate will have completed high school or obtained an equivalent combination of education and experience.  

Desired Qualifications*

Previous Orthopaedic experience is helpful.  Previous experience working with MiChart/Epic care/Cadence, as well as knowledge of University policies and procedures is helpful.

Work Schedule

8:00 am – 5:00 pm (may vary dependent upon clinical needs)

Monday – Friday (with the exception of meetings or coverage when necessary.  We utilize flex scheduling to off-set hours worked in excess of 8 in any one day).
