The University of Michigan-Flint Department of Theatre and Dance seeks energetic, detail oriented work-study students for employment in the departments’ costume shop. The costume shop is responsible for building garments for the University’s five main stage productions in the field of drama, musical theatre and dance. Sewing experience is not required but helpful. Students will be working on actual shows and getting real, industry quality hands-on experience while being supervised by professionals. Experiences like these can be listed on a resume for future jobs and graduate school applications, and are considered an important part of what it means to be a successful theatre and/or dance major.
Required: Students must be able to lift at least 25 pounds; additionally, this job requires applicants to climb both stairs and ladders. The costume shop is in production during business hours, night and weekend work is only available to students wishing to work backstage on wardrobe crews. Costume background via sewing experience or UM-Flint classroom experience is desired.
