The University of Michigan Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), a unit within Student Life, is a multidisciplinary and multi-theoretical university counseling enter that services a diverse student body of over 44,000 students. CAPS provides culturally competent clinical services, outreach programming, and training opportunities.
Approximately 4,500 students each year receive individual clinical services at CAPS.
CAPS is seeking applicants for staff counseling positions that will be located in either our Central office, or located at specific schools/colleges on our campus and will work closely with the faculty and staff of that particular school/college.
This is a 12-month permanent appointment.
Starting date is negotiable.
- Individual and group counseling (including clinical documentation time): 35%
- Crisis intervention: 20%
- Providing consultation to counseling center staff/trainees: 10%
- Providing consultation to UM staff and faculty: 5%
- Active involvement in all training programs including supervision of trainees, and educational activities: 10%
- Providing clinical workshops, liaison services: 5%
- Attending all center functions (staff meetings, clinical team meetings, retreats): 15%
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Social Work
- Licensed/license eligible in the State of Michigan
- Clinical experience with a college student/young adult population
- Clinical experience in a college or university counseling center setting preferred, but not required
- We are also interested in adding the following areas of culturally competent clinical and programming expertise with college student populations in our agency work:
- Language fluency (including able to conduct therapy) in languages other than English/Spanish – including, but not limited to, Mandarin and Korean
- Issues of neuro-diversity
- Issues of process addictions (e.g., internet addictions; alcohol/other drugs addictions; etc.)
These are the criteria that the hiring team will be evaluating the candidate for:
- Demonstrated competency and expertise in working clinically with college student/young adult populations.
- Demonstrated competency and expertise with, or interest in developing an expertise with, psycho-educational programming and outreach with a focus on the context of college student life.
- Demonstrated multicultural competency/work with diversity and difference in current professional role or professional-in-training role.
