Full-time Program Director position. Develop a wide variety of intentional outcome based programs including resident and family camps. Bring a high level of organization to supplies and resources while supporting staff and volunteers.  On-site housing is provided during camp sessions in Pinckney, MI with our administrative office located in Ann Arbor.

Responsibilities*

General Responsibilities

  • With the Camp Director, achieve annual operating goals, including camp programming, expense and cash management goals, personnel management, and maintenance of physical properties and other camp assets
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate staff to ensure each unique camp population served is understood by staff; ensuring campers are able to fully and successfully participate in all camp activities and programs
  • Serve as a professional member of the staff in the delivery of camp programs and activities
  • Accomplish annual operating goals, including programming, expense and cash management goals, personnel management, and maintenance of physical properties and other assets
  • Develop, maintain and assess program activities to meet established camper outcomes based on the medical conditions being served; these are often unique and change with each camp session
  • Maintain current knowledge on the special needs/adjustments needed for each population served and adjust as necessary to ensure campers have positive outcomes
  • Train staff to make sure campers are set up to succeed in reaching their goals during their camp session
  • Plan for and purchase and organization of activity materials and supplies as well as request in-kind donations
  • Coordinate and publish session activity schedules
  • Create, apply, evaluate and update policies and procedures to meet ACA Standards and SeriousFun Children’s Network Criteria along with any local, state and federal regulations to ensure the safety of all participants
  • Interpret and apply policies to create and update program manuals for seasonal and volunteer counselors
  • Maintain interpersonal skills necessary to work with a highly motivated, passionate and committed staff, volunteer base, constituents and supporters
  • Support organizational development, fundraising and stewardship
  • Achieve, through participation of seasonal camp staff and volunteers, camp program goals, including overseeing the development and execution of all camper programs, specifically summer camp, weekend family retreats and special program events, as well as securing and training the appropriate staffing to implement these programs
  • Create programming and activities tailored to the unique needs of the camper population served.  These needs may change weekly, depending upon medical conditions served.  Ability to orient camp staff to serve these campers is essential for positive outcomes each week.
  • Apply, evaluate and update policies and procedures to meet ACA Standards and SeriousFun Children’s Network Criteria along with any local, state and federal regulations so as to ensure the safety of all participants
  • Develop and execute comprehensive training program for seasonal staff and volunteers
  • Ensure a financially responsible program
  • Share in development and monitoring of budgets to ensure financial soundness of the programs
  • Support fundraising efforts of the organization

Shared Responsibilities

  • Act as a camp spokesperson, providing energy and enthusiasm for the mission
  • Maintain interpersonal skills necessary to work with a highly motivated, passionate and committed staff, volunteer base, constituents and supporters
  • Responsible for maintaining the proper use of all camp equipment
  • Position is responsible to needs of campers and counselors 24/7 during camp sessions
  • Must live on-site during camp sessions (shared on-site housing provided)
  • Must be on-site May – August (vacations are not permitted during camp sessions or summer)
  • Office hours during September through April 8:30 – 5:00 (unless during fall/winter weekend camp sessions)

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 2 years full-time experience developing and leading camp programming
  • Desire and ability to live and work with children and adults in an outdoor environment
  • Positive communication, supervision and support skills
  • Ability to deal with conflict and challenge in a way to create positive results
  • Willingness to accept guidance and supervision
  • Good character, integrity, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record and acceptable state/federal criminal background check
  • Physical strength to lift/move equipment and supplies (up to 40 pounds)

Desired Qualifications*

  • Four years progressive leadership experience in residential camping
  • Experience coordinating multi-faceted programs for children with serious health challenges and their families
  • Experience hiring, supervising and supporting staff and volunteers

Additional Information

This is a full time, year-round position. Sessions are held year round at the camp in Pinckney.  The Program Director is expected to be on site during these sessions.
