Implement existing financial aid programs and assist in development of new programs.
Provide quality customer service by; providing specific and general information regarding financial aid programs, processing financial aid application material, and assisting the student/ family in making reasonable decisions based on financial aid implications.
Provide professional representation of the Office of Financial Aid and the University of Michigan at University functions.
Act as liaison to selected University offices and; represent OFA at workshops, college nights, and other financial aid events.
- Assist in the development and writing of new procedures, policies, forms, instructions and manuals.
- Assist in other areas as assigned by unit Assistant Director.
- Maintain records, serve on committees and prepare special reports.
- Evaluate, resolve, or refer complex problems to Assistant Director for Client Services.
- Represent the Office of Financial Aid at professional conferences and workshops.

42% Counsel and advise students and parents (individually and in groups) on financial aid policies and procedures when needed. Assist students to make responsible financial decisions. Refer students to other offices and agencies as appropriate.
10% Maintain thorough knowledge of legislation and regulations governing financial aid programs, need analysis methodology, federal and state tax laws and office policies and procedures. Implement existing financial aid programs and assist in development of new programs.
Maintain complete working knowledge of policies and procedures of the University as a whole to provide a comprehensive student service network.
4% Maintain thorough knowledge of Office of Financial Aid need analysis and packaging software.
Utilize the existing University mainframe systems and/or client server software, any supporting applications, and OFA Network applications and software for the accurate and timely completion of processing, counseling, and reporting assignments.
1% Work on committees and provide input to OFA and other University offices and/ or professional organizations as requested on underrepresented minority issues.
A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary. Ability to make independent decisions, appropriately utilize professional judgment and to interpret federal/state/institutional regulations/policies/procedures a must.
Three years or more years of experience in financial aid or closely related field is required.
Experience in counseling and/or student services.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending upon the qualifications of the selected candidate. Applicants with less years of experience may apply.
Functional supervision is received from the Senior Aid Officers assigned to the unit and from the Assistant Director for Client Services.
General supervision is received from the Assistant Director for Client Services.
Some functional supervision may be exercised over temporary staff.
