Job Summary

The University of Michigan Medical School Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences seeks outstanding applicants for a faculty position focused on corneal disease research. The successful candidates will maintain a nationally and internationally recognized basic and/or translational research program in corneal pathophysiology, with the ultimate goal of improving lives by preserving and enhancing vision. Duties will include teaching graduate students, medical students and postdoctoral trainees, as well as service on departmental and medical school committees. Candidates with research programs in corneal infection, inflammation, immunology, wound healing, limbal stem cell deficiency, dry eye disease, transplant rejection, transplant bioengineering, degenerations/dystrophies, and gene therapy are desired. The position is in the instructional (tenure) track and is full-time. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and academic credentials. Candidates at all faculty levels are encouraged to apply. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level are expected to have postdoctoral training and first-author publications in cornea research. Candidates applying at Associate and Full Professor levels are expected to have a proven track record of scholarship and successful grant funding in cornea research.

Required Qualifications*

Successful candidates will have a PhD and/or MD degree, or equivalent, in areas described above.  Training, experience, publications, funding record, a detailed research plan, and demonstrated interest in graduate and post-doctoral education will be essential components of the application.
