The Department of Psychiatry in the University of Michigan Medical School is seeking an experienced, positive, highly motivated, organized, autonomous person with excellent multi-tasking ability and record-keeping skills to join our growing research team. The Clinical Consultant will work with the principal investigator and other research team members to accurately and efficiently carry out a range of tasks associated with a 1-2 year research study. This study aims to implement and evaluate a training model designed to increase utilization of evidence-based mental health practices among community mental health providers. Continued employment beyond the end of the research study is not guaranteed but may be optional pending funding. This is NOT a lab position.
The Clinical Consultant will work closely with the principal investigator and project team staff to provide consultation support to community mental health providers statewide who will be participating in a training program to learn Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness skills. Materials to support all aspects of this training program will be available to both trainees and consultants via the TRAILS website, and Consultants will be expected to attain familiarity with and proficiency in all program-related resources. Consultants will be compensated for 2 hours of work per week, per assigned mental health provider to whom they provide consultation; and regular contact with that provider will be expected via phone, email, and teleconference. Consultation will entail review of clinical tools and resources, discussion of upcoming treatment sessions, role-play practice of specific treatment skills, telemedicine attendance at a subset of treatment sessions, and feedback to providers regarding their delivery of CBT or Mindfulness techniques.
This position will serve as a primary interface between the study team and the clinical sites, and will need to maintain positive and cooperative relationships in day-to-day interactions with investigators and community partners.
Extensive knowledge of CBT and/or mindfulness is essential. Highly motivated, organized, autonomous person with excellent multi-tasking ability and record-keeping skills. Must have a strong attention to detail with the ability to function in a team environment. Preference will be given to those candidates with a background in community partnered activities, health services, and those that have extensive experience working with children, youth, or young adults in clinical settings. Proficiency in oral and written communication skills is essential as is the ability to manage time and work efficiently and effectively.
Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work and communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and community-based mental health professionals; punctuality; and ability to demonstrate flexibility within an evolving community participatory research project.
