These positions are open for Riverfront or First Street Residence Halls.  A cover letter is required for consideration for this position and should be attached as the first page of your resume. The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position and outline skills and experience that directly relate to this position.  To apply go to 


  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and training
  • Work rotating midnight, early morning and weekend shifts
  • Report directly to the Assistant Director and indirectly to other Housing and Residential Life staff
  • Follow the “Resident’s Guide to Community Living at UM-Flint” and the University of Michigan-Flint Students Responsibilities and Violations outlined in the “Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities
  • Perform all routine front desk functions i.e.:
    • guest check-in
    • campus information
    • answer phones and take messages
    • key/keycard distribution and room check-ins
    • maintain log sheets
    • sort and distribute mail / package distribution
    • operate copy machine
    • fire alarm and severe weather, respond to alarms and participate in drills
    • never leave the Front Desk unattended
  • Wear uniform and name tags while working
  • Maintain and conduct yourself in a professional and respect manner while providing great customer service.
  • Adhere to the Key and Key Card Agreement
  • Be attentive to and report all health and safety concerns in the residence hall.
  • Provide continuous interaction and example which encourages students to act with reason, to assume responsibility for their actions, and to be consistently considerate of the rights and freedoms of others.
  • Develop and promote a positive working relationship with all staff including, resident advisors, other front desk assistants, custodial staff, dining staff, etc.
  • Communicate any issues involving residents, guest and other staff members to direct and indirect supervisors immediately.
  • Maintain a standard of personal conduct commensurate with his/her responsibilities.
  • Perform the duties and meet the expectations described for their Housing and Residential Life Staff position
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by your supervisors

Required Qualifications*

  • Be a full-time University of Michigan - Flint student
  • Must live in on-campus housing in First Street or Riverfront Residence Halls
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Be available for employment
  • Work rotating midnight, early morning and weekend shifts
  • Work 3 hour blocks which is equivalent to 1 shift
  • Must work at least 12 hours a week
  • Positive and professional work attitude
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Work as part of a team
  • Attend Front Desk Staff Meetings and Office Staff  meetings when applicable
  • Have a minimum 2.5 accumulative and maintain at least a 2.5 each semester while employed beginning at the time of hire and throughout employment.

  • Time Commitment: This position is for Winter 2018.
