Description of Program

Michigan Health Sciences Career Development Academy (MHSCDA) is an eight-week residential fellowship program sponsored by the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS) Office for Health Equity & Inclusion (OHEI) for undergraduate students attending any accredited college or university. The Michigan Health Sciences Career Development Academy is committed to exposing and preparing students for medical school in a diverse and inclusive environment. The Career Development Academy is designed for rising junior and senior undergraduates or recent graduates of an accredited college or university. In particular, the program focuses on preparing participants for the extensive process of applying and gaining admission into medical school . Approximately 20 fellows participate in the Michigan Health Career Development Academy (MHSCDA).

Job Description

As part of the Michigan Health Sciences Career Development (MHSCDA), the Office for Health Equity and Inclusion (OHEI) is seeking a Facilitator Coordinator directly responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of workshops designed to contribute to the professional development of the MHSCDA participants. The Facilitator Coordinator will oversee the implementation of all workshops, and be responsible for facilitating designated workshop sessions. The Facilitator Coordinator will work closely with and receive direction from the MHSCDA Program Manager.

Requirements

  1. Must be available for the Academy session beginning Sunday May 21, 2018 through Saturday July 28th, 2018:
    1. Specific Academy dates are Sunday, May 27, 2018 to Saturday, July 21, 2018
  2. Highly developed organizational, administrative, and communication (written and oral) skills.
  3. Experience in planning and facilitating workshops about social justice concepts such as social identity, power, privilege, and oppression.
  4. Must be detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and work in busy learning environments.
  5. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  6. Bachelor’s degree in education, engineering, math, science, counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, business, or other related fields.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Current or admitted medical student desired.
  2. Experience working with students from underrepresented populations in medicine.
  3. Possession of a valid driver’s license

Duties and Responsibilities

Facilitate workshops

  1. Design the content for workshops in collaboration with MHSCDA Program Manager.
  1. Facilitate professional development and social justice workshops with MHSCDA Program Manager.
  1. Oversee and facilitate weekly discussion group sessions.

Maintain logistics of workshops

  1. Manage the implementation of daily workshop logistics.
  2. Coordinate transportation and/or parking logistics for guest speakers presenting at workshops.
  3. Monitor and order necessary workshop supplies for planned activities.

Reporting

  1. Manage all questionnaires/surveys relative to workshops.
  2. Create a final report of all the feedback for evaluation purposes.
  3. Meet with MHSCDA Program Manager on a weekly basis to update on progress of workshops.

Supervision Received

Facilitator Coordinators are directly supervised by the Michigan Health Sciences Career Development Academy (MHSCDA) Program Manager.

Compensation

$14.00-$16.00 per hour based on relative experience.
