Job Summary

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking an experienced clinical research coordinator to assist a growing number of faculty in the Sports Medicine area.


  • Collects and manages patient and laboratory data for clinical research projects.
  • Assists in the recruitment and retention of clinical research subjects
  • Screens and has oversight for the recruitment of subjects, supervises the scheduling of experiments and the collection, processing and analysis of data.
  • Collects specimens and monitors subjects.
  • Conduct research projects according to plan developed in conjunction with faculty supervisors.
  • Assist with IRB protocol preparation and maintenance.
  • Helps to ensure research conforms to appropriate local and national regulatory standards.
  • Participates in formulating research methods and suggesting options for improving quality and recommending solutions.
  • Works independently on collection of data and helps to analyze research results.
  • Prepares reports and helps drafts manuscripts and abstracts, including creating data tables, graphs and figures.
  • Responsible for the design, ongoing improvements, modifications, data entry, and maintenance of research databases.
  • Supervises research support personnel and students.
  • Perform range of motion and strength measures on clinical subjects
  • Assist with tissue biopsy collection
  • The candidate will ultimately be expected to work independently on collection of data and data analyses, but supervision and training by faculty and senior research personnel will ensure that applicable technical skills have been learned.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree required. Clinical experience or professional credentials in rehabilitation (athletic trainer, physical therapist, occupational therapist) preferred, along with 2-4 years prior experience performing clinical research, ideally in sports medicine.

Desired Qualifications*

Master's degree in Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Athletic Training, Biology, Public Health or Clinical Epidemiology.  Clinical experience in orthopaedics and sports medicine as an Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapist, Exercise Physiologist or other allied health profession is also desired. Experience working with electronic medical records and/or computer-based research database software is an asset. Phlebotomy certified or willing to be trained.
