Job Summary

The successful applicant will provide moderately complex technical laboratory support for a research faculty member.  

Responsibilities*

The technician will assist design, perform and interpret a broad range of experiments, using basic molecular biology techniques including cell culture, ELISA, immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry, PCR, real-time PCR analysis, animal handling, small animal surgery and tissue sectioning.  Participation in lab meetings and presenting data are expected.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's level degree in the biological sciences and at least one year's experience in molecular biology and cell culture laboratory techniques.
  • A successful candidate will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and inquisitive, with good organizational and communication skills.
  • A candidate should also have a willingness to learn new techniques.
  • The candidate must work effectively in a team setting, be able to communicate well, and keep clear records. I
  • n addition to the above laboratory skills, applicants should be able to input and analyze data using common software programs for PC-based computers.

Requires the academic knowledge of a health science discipline such as microbiology, biochemistry, anatomy, pathology or medical technology, plus the ability to translate, adapt and apply this knowledge.  This is generally associated with a Bachelor’s degree, supplemented by one or more years of progressively responsible experience in the conduct of health science research, or an equivalent combination of health science education and experience.

Desired Qualifications*

One to two years of previous experience in clinical and bench research are preferred.
