As a Referral Coordinator with Michigan Medicine, you will use a variety of clerical, computer and interpersonal skills.  We’ll work with you to master our electronic medical record (MiChart) and radiology-specific programs. Your primary work is to contact insurance carriers to obtain authorizations for Radiology procedures.  Channels of communications with these carriers, our websites, fax and telephone.  Justification for ordering the procedure is dependent on the documentation obtained in MiChart from the healthcare provider documentation.  Based on the insurance carriers authorization criteria,  it is feasible that the ordering physician may be requested to assist with the authorization process. Our Referral Coordination team is close-knit groups with a focus on patient care that provide continual learning opportunities.

What skills would you master?

  • You’ll work with a team of Referral Coordinators, each with a special focus and area of expertise.

Required Qualifications*

What minimum qualifications are required?

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in a hospital business office, private practice, insurance office or related setting is necessary.

  • To set yourself apart from the pack, exemplify your determination to be a flexible, self-motivated team member who is able to multitask effectively.

  • Working knowledge of MiChart (Epic) is helpful.

Physical Requirements

Ability to be in stationary position (sitting or standing) up to 90% of the time.

Work Schedule

40 hours, day shift, Monday – Friday. This position is located at the KMS building on State Street.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
