The A. Alfred Taubman Health Center is located on the main medical campus. Our office is on the third floor of the Taubman Center in the Urology faculty and administrative offices. This position will allow Medical Records Specialist direct access to several key faculty and staff on a daily basis. What skills will you master?

This position will support our Taubman Center Urology providers.

?Our Medical Records Specialist is responsible for ensuring providers are prepared for clinic by obtaining all pertinent medical records for patient appointments. There is frequent communication with clinicians regarding needed information. This is an extremely vital role in our department because it enables our providers to make sound judgement when determining the best possible plan of care for our patients. In joining this department, you will contribute to the growth and expansion of this nationally ranked program. Not only will gain valuable experience collecting records, you will also gain an understanding of the Urology patient population and learn to anticipate provider needs. In addition to these specialized skills you will:

  • Review the schedule regularly to ensure all necessary medical records are received prior to upcoming appointments.
  • Create new appointment requests via MiChart referral shell process.
  • Draft and send emails, letters, MiChart notes, memos, faxes, reports and other documents required by ambulatory urology team.
  • Upload outside CD images into Life Image system and place orders as needed.
  • Process test results (Litho Link, labs, radiology, etc.) and send to appropriate staff to follow up with patients. 
  • Process return to work note, disability paperwork, letters of medical necessity, supply ordering, etc. as directed by ambulatory urology team.


As part of the orientation training process, you will have extensive MiChart training and will receive 1:1 training on workflow processes.

Required Qualifications*

Minimum Qualifications

  • We do require that you have a High school diploma or GED
  • 3-4 years of experience
  • Prior experience performing complex scheduling
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology is necessary
  • Familiarity with obtaining medical records
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting
  • Effective communication

Work Schedule

What will your work schedule look like?

The office is open 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Background Screening
