The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN) Office of Admissions and Records (OAR) is looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst Associate who will be responsible primarily for performing and managing data analyses, as well as creating methods to obtain and extract data to fulfill data requests and reporting needs.  This position also supports course scheduling needs for the school and provides some administrative support to the office.


Data Requests and Reporting:

  • Responsible for internal and external student-related data requests and maintaining and analyzing the data with a focus on accuracy, confidentiality and integrity.
  • Manage and create reports; generate statistics and analysis as needed.
  • Completion of yearly internal and external surveys related to academic programs, including CCNE and U.S. News and World Report.
  • Generate regular reports on students including enrollments, retention data, academic progression, graduation rates.
  • Facilitate the collection and analysis of post-graduation outcome data.
  • Coordinate with the UMSN Office of Project Management to provide data used to create informational dashboards for viewing recruitment and admissions data as well as current student data.
  • Be a source of knowledge regarding all UMSN student-related data requests.
  • Ensure accurate student data is entered in the student and academic databases and spreadsheets.
  • Work extensively with the M-Pathways Student Administration System, Business Objects, and Microsoft Excel to extract, analyze and present data.
  • Monitor data requests received in the group email box.

Course Schedule:

  • Attend Curriculum Committee meetings to serve as a liaison between the faculty and the Registrar’s Office and to make adjustments to courses through the Registrar’s Office as necessary.
  • Represent UMSN at Registrar's Office meetings to learn about MPathways improvements and changes; communicate with the Registrar’s Office after students register to correct any issues.
  • Monitor and respond to inquiries (as appropriate) sent to the group email box including updates received from Human Resources, the Registrar’s Office, and faculty.
  • Serve as back-up for the course schedule as needed.
  • Order, distribute, and archive teaching evaluations.

Administrative Support:

  • Respond to all correspondence, telephone, and email inquiries related to academic matters in a timely manner.
  • Complete other assignments as needed to support the Office of Admissions and Records.

Required Qualifications*


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a quantitative field such as business, finance, accounting, mathematics, etc.
  • Three (3) years of experience with databases, systems administration, and data reporting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Experience creating, modifying, and running queries in various systems.
  • Demonstrated experience at the advanced level in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and especially Excel.
  • Demonstrated exceptional attention to detail and follow-through on assignments.
  • Strong analytical skills, including compiling and analyzing data.
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums. Must have very strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Experience with admissions processes, or University systems within higher education such as MPathways and Business Objects.
  • Experience with data integrity practices and reporting.
  • Ability to set priorities, handle multiple assignments and deadlines and display excellent judgment while operating in a flexible and professional manner; strong ability to multitask while remaining focused is essential.

Work Schedule

Shift/Hours/Days: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday; some weekend and evening hours maybe required.
