The Housing Bureau for Seniors is seeking a full-time Social Worker to serve as the HomeShare Coordinator. “HomeShare” matches homeowners with persons seeking housing. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience working with older adults around issues of housing insecurity and relevant community resources. This individual will be responsible for identifying homeowners and renters who would be ideal for a shared housing situation; conducting psychosocial assessments to evaluate physical, emotional and social functioning and strengths; and analyzing, comparing and evaluating various interventions to stabilize housing and establish a sustainable housing situation. This position also includes programmatic development. It is essential that this individual is able to work well as a member of a team in a fast paced environment. 

Required Qualifications*

A degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education is required. Applicants must have a current clinical license to practice social work in the State of Michigan. Clinical practice and field practicum or recent work experience with older adults is required.

  • Strong assessment skills
  • Ability to quickly establish therapeutic relationships
  • Relate well to a diverse population
  • Familiarity with the mediation process
  • Experience working in settings with older adults around issues of housing insecurity
  • Experience conducting high-level interventions while also meeting basic tangible and concrete needs
  • Experience working collaboratively and effectively with other professionals, agencies, community partners and groups, particularly those working in housing-related organizations
  • Knowledge of programs and services for older adults is strongly desired

It is essential that the candidate be able to:

  • Manage a large caseload with multiple competing demands
  • Work independently in a variety of stressful and demanding situations
  • Demonstrate critical decision making, assessment and intervention skills
