The University of Michigan Medical School, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is seeking outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position with a primary appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology and a joint appointment in an appropriate basic science department such as Molecular and Integrative Physiology or Microbiology and Immunology. Applicants focused on Immunologic mechanisms will be evaluated with particular consideration given to those studying autoimmune disease, immune mechanisms of neuro-inflammation and restoration of immune to tolerance. Candidates applying for the rank of assistant or associate professor are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent research program in Visual Sciences with emphasis on immunologic mechanisms, applying for indepednet external funding, publish and present results. Successful candidate will also participate in graduate education as well as participate in the departmental efforts in education in ophthalmology and visual sciences. Additional teaching duties may be associated with a joint appointment in a basic science department.
Successful candidates will have a PhD and/or MD degree, or equivalent, in areas as described above. Documentation of scholarly ability and achievement (record of publications in peer-reviewed journals; record of acquisition of external funding for research programs, detailed research plan, collaborative research experience) is expected. Preferred candidate will have a demonstrated interest in graduate and post-doctoral education and possess the critical elements of teaching (knowledge of subject matter, skill in presentation, enthusiastic approach, etc.). Evidence of competence in teaching is expected.
The position is for the instructional tenure track and is full-time. The position is posted as Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and academic credentials.
