Job Summary

Self-motivated and organized individual sought for a research technician assistant position in a basic science laboratory at the Medical Science Building 2, Molecular & Integrative Physiology Department, University of Michigan. Research in our laboratory is focused on neuroendocrine control of reproduction and metabolism. We use mouse genetics, molecular biology and systems neuroscience. The technician will assist the PI, the Research Investigator, the graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in research projects by preparing materials and reagents for histology/genetics based projects, assisting in surgeries, and histological procedures. This position will also allow for research duties primarily focused in cell and tissue histology, mouse genotyping and mouse colony maintenance.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Preparation of solutions and media

  • Maintaining aliquot stocks

  • Accurate record keeping

  • Preparation of surgical materials

  • Brain surgeries and castration

  • Post-operative monitoring of animals

  • Mouse perfusion and tissue harvesting

  • Histology sample preparation (freezing, fixing, sectioning)

  • Immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization

Required Qualifications*

  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Flexible work hours and days
  • Associate Level:  Associates degree with  0-1 years of experience
  • Intermediate Level: Associates degree with 1-3 years of experience

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • Mouse genotyping, histological procedures. 
  • Previous laboratory experience
